3 Simple Ways to Boost Your Brain Power

3 Simple Ways to Boost Your Brain Power

Today we will be discussing our 3 top brain boosting tips.

Tip 1 - Take a Nap

Our brains and bodies tend to begin to feel tired in the middle of the day. This is part of our normal circadian rhythm. This often leads us to have an afternoon slump and makes us feel sluggish for the second half of the day. Taking a nap can help reinvigorate and energise our minds, making us more productive in the latter half of the day. Even if we don’t fully fall asleep, some quiet time for our brain can really help with our productivity.  Try a power nap for between 5-30 mins, and reap the benefits!

Tip 2 - Caffeinate

Caffeine is the most mildly used psychoactive drug in the world, and it's easy to understand why. Caffeine can significantly increase our mental alertness and cognitive functioning. Additionally, caffeinated drinks often contain a significant amount of water, which will also help with brain functioning. Ingesting caffeine 30-60 minutes before our desired period of heightened focus will really help with our cognitive power. The effects of caffeine are long lasting, so be mindful that you do not ingest it too late in the day to the point that it begins to affect our sleep. At least 6 hours before bedtime is a good place to start, but you may need to cut it out earlier if you are sensitive to its effects.

Tip 3 - Go for a walk

Human’s were built to move, and because of this exercise has a profound effect on our ability to think, rationalise, problem solve, memorise and make decisions. With this in mind, a good strategy to increase our mental power is to exercise regularly. We can also use exercise acutely to boost our brains. Going for a short 5-10 minute walk is enough to increase our cognition. Better yet, walking outside has the additional benefit of fresh air and sunlight, both of which will also super charge our brain power.
